Surprise

I do find it amazing that in internet discussions on this subject, Canadians and Scandinavians so often express surprise at finding out that Americans and British people wear shoes at home. Removing shoes just seems to them to be the natural thing to do.

And where I grew up it was weird for people to remove their shoes. Here there are a lot of people who remove and a lot of people who wear. It seems more tied to weather than custom here.

Here weather is not supposed to come into it. It ought to do, seeing as we have such wet weather (except now in the present heat wave).

We get both rain and heat together here. That's always fun. Or not. It was really hot today!

It was so hot yesterday. I think it will be pretty warm today as well.

And how true. I had always thought that removing shoes at the door was the norm across the globe!!

Well, across a major part of the globe it is. Canada, Scandinavia, eastern Europe, Asia.

And Matthew will convert the rest.

You have great faith.

Matthew, you are not alone, so it's a team effort. We will do this together. I'm working on my roommate right now. She does very well most of the time, but I think her commitment is mostly external and for my benefit.

It certainly is a tema effort.

I am sure your roomate will come to regard removing shoes as normal.

God Bless

Matt
