Inviting somebody to dinner at your house?

Don't forget to say:

By the way, you will need to take your shoes off. You might want to bring some slippers with you

I'm thinking of having a friend to come and stay with me for a weekend before long. I've already told her that I have cream carpets but not of my shoes off policy. When the time comes, I'll probably remind her of tyhe carpets and then go on and explain that I have a shoes off policy for that reason and then tell her that she might weant to pack some slippers when she comes.

I think you should certainly mention it before she comes. It is a lot more polite to do so, though it is impolite to ask for shoes-off at the door if you did not get the chance to prompt them earlier.

How do think your visitors feel about your shoes-off policy generally?

Yes I will tell her before hand and I'll try and do so in a fairly light hearted way and I'm sure she'll take it in good spirits. I've never had anyone making any negative comments about the policy (not that I have many visitors to the house though) and all seem to see my point in having it.

That is encouraging to hear.

If you host any parties with lots of guests coming, please give me some feedback if you would.

I agree that it is only fair to give warning to first time visitors about shoe removal....I always have and as a result never had a problem....Emily
