I was talking to some staff at the hospital and a doctor brought up the subject of removing shoes. She said that in her home she always takes her shoes off and when visiting other people, she always brought her slippers with her (with a bottle of wine for the hosts). Very thoughtful.

Good to hear that a doctor is in favour of this healthy custom. Let's hope that she's typical of her profession and that they'll come to encourage it soon.

Maybe just typical of those in the south-east. It does seem more common round here.

According to one recent poll that was quoted on this blog, it would appear that shoes off homes are most common in the Midlands and it's probably only a matter of time before it spreads to other parts of the country too.
