she doesn't look very happy )

No, but she has been praised for her outfit.

I read about this in the journal of the Monarchist League, of which I am a member.

If it were a Buddhist temple, chances are, the guy in the picture would've had to ditch the socks as well. (As far as I know, most, if not all, Buddhist temples, at least within the Eastern Hemisphere forbid the wearing of socks or stockings, let alone shoes.)

The only places of worship I've ever been inside were those within the general vicinity of Christianity (and I use the term loosely), in which shoes are kept on, at least by default. Then again, in those places, pews or chairs are generally standard fare (not to mention there are some attendees, including myself, that often observe the traditional concept of "Sunday Best" which--could potentially look awkward without shoes in the picture depending on who you ask--though I would settle for, say, clean jeans and a knit top if it was the best I could do), whereas in religions such as Buddhism and Islam, worship is done on the floor. Do you think that, if Christian churches would be more inclined to have a "shoes-off" policy (if it were to ever occur to them to do that; I don't know the chances of that happening though) associated with temples, etc., in other religions if said pews/chairs were taken out of the equation?

Not all Buddhist temples forbid socks.

I believe most Buddhist temples in the Uk allow socks, as well as some in Asia.

Christians in Japan usually remove their shoes in churches, but they still have pews or chairs.

among princesses, it was Diana who never showed any prejudice of shoes-off being "unacceptable" for "upper| classes

Yes, I can think of two occasions when Princess Diana was photographed with her shoes off.
