Roberto Cavalli and Cannes 2013

The Cannes Film Festival was hit by heavy rain this year. While this did not stop all the usual celebrity yacht parties, they were not quite what they were last year.

As a result of the heavy rain, Roberto Cavalli, fashion guru and world-class party host, made an exception one night and permitted celebrity guests to come on his luxury yacht with their shoes on. Apparently the decks were seriously marred by stiletto traffic.

I'm sure the glitterati are hoping for better weather next year and some stiletto-free boat parties!

Interseting previous post about France. I used to have a French girlfriend and as well as having a no shoes off policy at home, she wore slippers in work.

Just to explain, she was the manageress of a furniture store and lived in an appartment above the store. She kept a pair of heels in her office but just went down from the appartment in her slippers with business dress and usually kept them on all day.

Thanks for dropping in. What do you think about it?

Well,I can actually say I had no idea, that you were not supposed to wear shoes on a yacht, interesting though, but it would probably be fun even in stockinged feet

Know its not directly relevant, but visited a branch of Thompons travel agency today to try and book a holiday.

The lady who helped me was a stunning blonde, smartly dressed but in stockinged feet. She must have noticed me looking as she apologised for being shoeless. I asked her what had happened to her shoes and she just said "they're around here somewhere"!!

I was speaking with a couple just two days ago about flooring. They'd been forced to carpet their lovely wood-block floor because of the damage inflicted by years of high-heeled shoes clattering across them! They now have slightly dirty carpets instead!! I think we all know the solution, don't we?
