Food For Thought: Having A "No Shoe" Home Rule

Some great advice about having a shoe-free home. British people need more of this lady's assertive attitude.

As long as outdoors shoes come off at the door it really doesnt matter if people wear socks, slippers or go bare foot.

Mark, I think it does as long as many people, especially ladies, avoid removing shoes only because they're afraid they won't look good. Emphasis on the aesthetic issue is going to have more adepts into offalists's camp.

I think Sandro is correct. If a woman does not think that she will look attractive without her shoes she will avoid going places where she has to de-shoe.

Still, forcing someone to de-shoe is rather bad taste.

Bob and Sandro I've never encountered this. But I am sure there are those women who will think like this. In my experience I have always found that it is the ladies who are much more willing to take their shoes off than men. Recently I went to a house viewing and the estate agent asked everyone to remove their shoes as the house had new carpets throughout. One man got most upset at having to take his shoes off, but his wife had him do it.

Mark, I think that you are correct, a woman will generally be more willing to take her shoes off than a man. However the point I was trying to make was that a woman who doesn't think she will make a good appearance without shoes will avoid going to places where she would be asked to do so.
In my experience I have only encountered one person who refused to take off their shoes before entering our home. It was a woman who was trying to convince us to use a particular food service. We did not let her enter.
